WORD OF THE YEAR: OUR FIRST CULTURE MOVE OF 2022
As cameras blinked on and our grid of twenty faces began to fill the screen, the quiet hum of our technology greeted us for the first time in 10 days and drew us back to the space where we imagine the possibilities and create magic together. It was the opening scene of 2022 and our moment to mark the next chapter of life at TENFOLD.
We intentionally chose to begin our year remotely as the world is still working the rhythms of life during a pandemic. We’re veterans now, though, and Microsoft Teams has just become an extension of the many places and spaces that we get to create within. We usually begin the week with an overview of projects. Today, we took the time to reconnect. Sharing stories of holiday memories made, food over-indulged in, and various forms of rest, our annual studio closure was good for our bodies, minds, and souls.
Wanting to channel all this good energy into the new year, we proposed a question to the team (spontaneously): if you could pick one word for this year, what would it be? The team went around in sharing their word – some had already thought of theirs, others let their intuition lead the way.
They say actions speak louder than words, but we see that words inspire people to action.
At TENFOLD, we believe in the power of words – we see their effect throughout our culture and the cultures of brands we work with. Language is an often overlooked instrument for engagement - strategy and action steps set the path, but speaking the same language puts us on that journey together.
Our words of the year were turned into a desktop background and sent to our team in our weekly newsletter, giving us all the chance not only to put our word where we’ll see it everyday but also each other’s words to be energized and inspired by. Together, we’re going after the kind of year we each want to live.
idea for you
Ask your team, friend group, or family to pick their word for 2022. Ask them why that word is significant to them, capture the words in one place together and see where the inspiration takes you. And if you’re looking for help finding the right words to guide and inspire your team toward greatness, we’re here to help.
